Vonage VoIP Service Review

Vonage is perhaps the most well known provider, and many reviews say it’s a good value. Some reviews noted occasional garbled voices and clipped sentences but this could be the result of a poor broadband connection or other non related issues.

Features
Service includes the basic VoIP features including:

  • Voicemail Plus...includes voicemail to email which is a great feature.
  • Caller ID with callers name...many providers only show the phone number.
  • Call Forwarding
  • 3 Way Calling
  • Call Waiting

Additional benefits include 30-day Money Back Guarantee, no annual contracts, free phone adapter, E911 dialing (where available), keep your phone number, real time on line web account to change your billing information, manage voicemail, edit your user information, review your call log, and change call forwarding options.

Price
The price of $24.95 is an average price when compared to the top VoIP provider’s plans. You can find very close to the same service at a lower price. Both ViaTalk and SunRocket offer similar service below $17 per month. SunRocket is $16.58/month if you pay for it in advance for a year ($199). ViaTalk is $15.95/month if you pay for 24 months in advance. We do not recommend purchasing a service plan based on price alone. You don't want to get stuck with the hassle of trying to get your 12 to 24 months of pre-payment back if you are not satisfied with the service.

Service
We did not experience any service issues therefore we did not have a reason to speak to their customer service/technical support department. Having said that when you look at customer reviews their main complaint is extremely poor service. Many customers complain about spending hours on hold. Requested call backs, never came. The company is growing extremely fast and most likely sooner than later their service will improve. In the mean time you should considered how important the service issues are to you before selecting Vonage as your VoIP provider.

Reliability
Features are about average to above average for this vendor.

Based on our experience, the service worked well. We did experience periodical issues with caller ID and call forward from time to time. Other reviews noted garbled voices and clipped sentences.

We did not have a problem with the delivery of the adapter and it was easy to install. Having said that there are many customers who complain about issues with adapter delivery time, poor quality and difficult installation.

Sound Quality
I will say that calls are very clear if not the clearest of all the vendors. This provider puts a high priority on delivering good voice quality.

Overall
Vonage is obvious the leader VoIP service provider and for the most part they provide a reliable service providing you have the correct broadband capacity. They also have many features at a standard price.

If you do have issues with your Vonage service it is likely you will have a poor customer service experience. This company probably grew to fast and was not prepared for the large onset of customers they have. Eventually they will improve their customer service and technical support. Vonage is the VoIP provider leader and have been for some time therefore I have to believe the service will improve.

Give this service serious consideration when selecting a service provider.
